OUR REVIEW

A beautiful restoration of an old building which dates back to 1810. Abelos Villa offers two adjoining stone-built houses set in attractive gardens which contain a large swimming pool. The houses have been lovingly adapted and furnished, to provide charm and comfort. Many windows have soothing, pretty views. The houses have several terraces, added to the expansive poolside terrace and areas to sit in the gardens. This provides a constant stream of variety to the pleasures to be had from the place.

Abelos is set at the "front" of Roustika village, with views from the houses and gardens across fertile valleys to the distant sea and the horizon.
The whole offers you a delightful home base for relaxation. And if you can prize yourself away from this lovely little village and your "country seat" within it, there is much opportunity for splendid drives and exploration in the centre of Crete, with its impressive mountains and friendly villages. Stretching your journey for 25 minutes in one direction you can be on sandy beaches or the old town of Rethymno. In the other direction (to the south), in 20-30 minutes, you are on yet another coast and dipping toes in the Libyan sea.

Roustika village has an open, elevated location, some narrow cobblestone streets, arches, old houses and a lovely traditional kafeneio by the square. Other village sights are: the church of Panagia (Holly Mary) dating 1100, with very rare frescoes; the museum of traditional costumes from all over Greece; the Monastery of Profitis Elias built in 1200. And the E4 walking path passes just outside Roustika.
The village offers a taverna and its own rudimentary butcher's shop/mini-market. The nearby village of Agios Konstantinos (2 km) has a much favoured additional eating place and a super-market for your own shopping wishes.
You have found the ideal hideaway in a rural Crete village. You will easily enjoy this hillside country house and pool.

You may choose to take just one of the two houses but if you can we recommend taking the estate! Why? Because to occupy this small estate for you and your closest companions or your family will be a treat to remember for years to come. Either way, the experience is a special one.

It was an excellent visit. Everything with the property was as good, and even beter than expected. I hope we shall visit Crete again one day. Thank you for your efficiency and help - I hope to be in touch again.

The entire holiday could not have been better, and we thoroughly enjoyed the facilities at Abelos, and the friendly welcome we received from Poppy, and the villagers in Roustika. We will certainly be returning to Crete, and other islands of Greece. Your website will be viewed before our trips are finalised. We did have a problem following the directions provided, getting completely lost after Koufi. But that was a bit of a laugh when we eventually arrived, we saw places we would never have found otherwise.

We had a very good time in Crete. The villa was much nicer than the presentation that was on the Internet. Popi (the landlady) was very hospitable. If we came again we would consider the same place if we had the numbers of people we had. We liked being in the mountains and in the small village away from the tourists.
Thank you very much and I would recommend making the presentation of the villa better on the Internet to attract more people.

quick words---just want to tell you everything worked perfectly---rustica and abelos were like the garden of eden--popi, very welcoming--i would come back again, and i have arleady recommended it--thanks for everything.

Fantastic place & owner--we will be back!!! Signs are a bit confusingly placed we were a bit confused but eventually found it.Popi took EXCELLENT care of us in Roustika and the town itself was very nice and well "rustic", she was very professional and helpful and friendly and took care of all the little details for us, such as arranging for food to be brought to us, stocking the refrigerator at no extra cost, fresh flowers, directions & maps and the place was in perfect condition super clean & decorated in good taste, with all the things you needed. We were impressed. Having the fantastic garden & pool was wonderful as well as having the house to ourselves the entire time. We never went to the beach because having that fantastic pool more than enough!! We want to return there next time & bring our in-laws with us. The proximity to Remetheyo [Rethymno] & other nice little unspoiled towns & watching the sheep being herded past the villa gates thru an extremely narrow street was a highlight of our stay there as was to sit on the rooftop at night & hear the locals playing & singing Cretan music from their homes or tavernas. The only things I would recommend for your future Roustika guests is to tell them to go to Retheymo or any small town before Roustika and stock up on the basics they might want so that they can stay the house & relax after arrival. There is no bakery or grocery store nor restaurant in Roustika, however Popi will get you bread, eggs, seasonally available fruit & cheese (the best cheese ever), olives & wine at no cost. It also would be good to tell them about a few restaurants in the surrounding areas as there is only one taverna in Roustika that serve only Slouvaki and French fries and this only after 8 or 9 o'clock in the evening. It was very tasty & Maria (owner) was very kind to us. It was well worth the money--you could only wish there was a good restaurant there and then you would want for nothing. Could you please send me her email address I wanted to write her a thank you email & ask how she is doing-Thanks!!

Abelos Villa was amazing...Elleni was an amazing host, she pampered us and this holiday will be one to be remembered for years to come. The house, facilities, Elleni and her daughter were first class all the way through, we have no comments for improvements because it was all perfect Thank you so...much for all your kind assistance, warm regards,

Just a couple of more thoughts about our visit on Crete. We forgot to mention what an awesome experience we had in visiting Nick's Taverna in Rousillon [Roustika]. We were there twice and the people welcomed us like long lost family. The food just kept coming and the raki kept pouring and Nick kept kissing all of us on both cheeks. They hardly let us spend a penny and we really enjoyed the company of Rousillon's [Roustika's] elite.

Thank you so much for a wonderful stay in Roustika and Abelos Villa the last week of May. We really enjoyed everything and were overwhelmed by the hospitality and lodging and service. Miss Eleni is a travel agency all by herself and treated us like VIPs. Nikos and Eleni down at the kafenion in Roustika adopted us as family members and helped creating unforgettable memories. When one of our cars broke down, we got a new one right away by your contributio, I guess.. As you see, we are very satisfied with everything.
Some of my friends have already booked tickets to go back to Crete, and my wife and I will visit Georgiopolis in July like every year. We tell everybody about Roustika and Crete Travel so maybe you will hear more from Norwegisn tourists in the future.

Hello. My sister and I had a wonderful stay in Crete. The house we rented from Popi exceded our expectations. You may want to note that a new road was put in, and getting to the house is simpler. You turn off before you get to Roustika. There is good signage pointing you to Abelos Villas. The only setback to the trip was not having enough time. Thank you for all your help. It really made our vacation more enjoyable.
Cheers, Barbara Slayman
