Akrotiri Apartments - Makrigialos
OUR REVIEW These simple and attractive apartments are set on the edge of a strip of land that reaches out into the sea of Makrigialos. Their exceptional position gives them superb views to the sea, the village and surrounding mountains. The lovely fishing harbour of Makrigialos, with tavernas and cafes for breakfast, snacks and full meals, is only a 1 minute stroll away, as is the main long sandy beach. The beach has a very gentle incline that makes it particularly suitable for children. As you go to the eastern part of the village, tourist shops and facilities are more frequent and things are a bit noisier. A second quieter sand and pebble beach is a 2 minute walk, to the west of Akrotiri. Each Akrotiri Apartment consists of one bedroom with twin beds, a living room with a sofa bed (that becomes two more beds), a kitchenette and a bathroom with shower. Each Akrotiri Studio consists of a living/sleeping room with two beds (an additional bed can be provided if required), a kitchenette and a bathroom with shower. All studios/apartments have air conditioning, telephone, satellite TV and a balcony or terrace with sea view. The kitchenette has 2 hotplates, a mini-oven, small fridge, coffee facilities, cutlery and utensils. The flowery gardens enhance the beautiful setting and views. The owner family living on site is ready to welcome and care for their guests.
Ideal base for a relaxed vacation by the sea in a
pleasantly uncrowded beach town. Good swimming, water sports and boat trips to Koufonisi. Explore other fairly
quiet beaches nearby like Mavros Kolimbos and Koutsouras or the interesting villages of Pefki and Agios
Stefanos in the mountains above. Walk a small gorge in the area or visit the Kapsa Monastery nearby.
Visit Ierapetra and take a boat trip to Chrissi island (Gaidouronisi),
with the white sands and cedar trees.
We had really enjoyable time in Makrigialos. We have visit Greece many times and we realy enjoy the land
and the people there. The place Akrotiri was very nice. The owner was very friendly and we enjoy the
people, beaches and the atmosphere in Makrigalos.

Astrid and Age Pettersen,Norway. The Akrotiri Apartments were fairly basic but good value for money especially as the gardens around the apartments were lovely .and the views from our apartment, which was at the front, were fantastic. Nice to be so close but not too close to the tavernas and beach. Regards, Lesley and Russ Gordon Many thanks for arranging our week at the Akrotiri Apartments. It was just as we expected and more so as the owner's parents were so friendly and hospitable, they were lovely! We certainly do hope to go back to Crete, we love the scenery and wonderful people. Regards, Geoffrey and Helen Before arriving to Magrigialos I was not sure how it will look like because the coast is not really nice. But the Akritori appartements were nice and the family managing the place was helpfull. It was a good choice. Henry Meilhac We had a wondrful time on Crete. It is an amazingly beautiful and delightful island - but much more difficult to negotiate than we had thought. Having a landlady with a very limited command of English did at times prove a problem and not knowing about the extra cost of air-conditioning might have been an issue. Nevertheless, it was a lovely apartment with fantastic views and position - brilliant. We would certainly take rooms with you again. Kim Howarth The owners of the Akrotiri apartments were extremely hospitable making us feel welcome and at home from the time of our arrival until we left 19 days later. Their hospitality plus the superb location of the apartment made for a very memorable stay. Well worth another visit. Peter Bion We have now completed our 13 days stay at Akrotiri Apartements in Makrigialos. The place was recommended by you as a favorite, and that is understandable. It is placed on the best site in the whole of Makrigialos, and the view from there are just great. But.......... A lot of other things are not up to standards, and I want you to notify the owners (hosts) about these so they can be corrected. 1. Cleaning of the apartments (we had 2) was only done two times in 13 days. That is not sufficient. In addition we think that the quality of cleaning was not good. 2. Towels was changed three times, one of them by direct demand from us. 3. One of the toilets was leaking in the intake tube so the bathroom floor was constantly wet. We notified the owner about it, but nothing was done. 4. Kitchen utensils was too sparse, we had to combine from the two studios to have sufficient for living there. Pans for cooking was too few, and one of them was Copyright CreteTravel.com - protected not suitable for use on elektric plates. It was designed for gas (thin bottom).5. Cooking plates on the cooker were worn out, so making boiling water for coffee, tea, or cooking eggs took a considerable time. 6. When paying for the apartments at the end of our stay, we were not given a receipt. When we asked for one, we were told that it should be given to us later. Asking again, we got the same answer. We left Akrotiri without any proof that we had paid 1196 euros to them. The place only acceps cash, and that is OK, but not giving guests neither an incoice nor a receipt is acceptable. I have never experienced something like it! 7. The 3 people running Akrotiri could benefit from being better to speak foreign languages. They seem to understand some English, but speaking it is more difficult. Perhaps the daughter could be sent to Ierapetra to attend a course in English? During our stay we had the opportunity to visit another holiday resort in Makrigialos and the owner let us see one of the apartments. There are 8 aparments there, same size as Akrotiri, same price. What a difference! We thought that the building was new, but the owner told us that it was 20 years old. Well maintained. Well, I really hope that you will translate this to greek and bring it to the attention of the owners of Akrotiri. This is no disaster! We had after all a wonderful stay in Makrigialos. Akrotiri has, as I mentioned in my mail, the best setting in town. Therefore I had to report the things which might be criticized so it can be corrected. Akrotiri has the potential to be a superb holiday resort, with adjustments it may even gain an extra star. If I was the owner, I would get it up a peg in a short time. It is satisfactory that you will give some advice to the owners, they are nice people, but need a little help. So all in all your recommendation was not that bad. Per Lauritz Harby Akrotiri apartments were very well located. The only negative point was that we did not have a wonderful view, we were over looking a 'court yard' and it was not cleaned the whole time we were there. But Overall we had a very pleasant time there. We will certainly look at your site because you did a GREAT JOB. Sjaak de Koning Our vacation in Akrotiri Apartments has been absolutely excellent! Very nice apartment with fantastic sea view, friendly Mrs Doudali with husband, fantastic beached of Makrigialos and South East Crete. I hope we will go back to these apartments, maybe this autumn! Miroslav Rytir We were absolutely delighted with everything, most especiially the taxi transfers which were the icing on the cake - prompt and comfortable with very courteous drivers. Our accommodation at Akrotiri was superb, a very spacious apartment in superb, peaceful surroundings, with beaches and tavernas so near. Your website information was spot on and so helpful - Dimitri and Hara at Olympus looked after us so well and everything was freshly prepared to order and delicious. It's a lovely little area around the harbour and we were so pleased we had it on our doorstep. We never did find Aphrodite and wonder if it still exists. Thankfully Peter remained well for the whole holiday, maybe due to Maria's mother keeping us well stocked with kilos of grapes from her garden! Your help has been invaluable on 2 occasions now and we live in hope we can make it to 3! Many thanks, once again.
