Calypso Hotel - Matala
OUR REVIEW Matala -
the place of spectacular sunsets, a bustling and popular seaside
village which springs to life for its visitors. The place where the caves became a paradise for the "hippies" in the 70's. The hippies
are missing, but Matala magic still flows and the village has been spruced up
in part. The deep sandy beach and the rest of Matala which you can enjoy as you please is a five minute stroll from the hotel. The wonderful sandy beach of Kommos, which seems to extend forever to the west, and its adjoining substantial archaeological remains, are a short drive. Not far from Matala is the Minoan Palace of Phaestos, the summer palace of Agia Triada, the antiquities of Gortys and many monasteries. You can enjoy swimming from three different nearby beaches. Matala has no big resort hotels and preserves a local and friendly atmosphere. Ten minutes away, in the village of Pitsidia, horse-back riding is available.

Gillian Smissen Just thought I would drop a quick line giving you some feedback on our time at the Hotel Calypso. Our stay was very pleasant even though the phones in the rooms did not work and there were no televisions in the rooms either. Neither of these things made much difference. Copyright CreteTravel.com - protected I just thought it strange that in 2006 there were still hotels that did not provide a television. The people were very pleasant and the pool very enjoyable and clean. The overall impression is very positive.Michael Dornan Good value for the price. Massimo Cristaldi CALYPSO : Room : good for the price. Owner : always in a bad mood without any reason. Breakfast : miserable Gabriel Hakel We were, in general, very pleased with everything we booked through you. Here are specific comments: Calypso Hotel: There are no phones in the rooms, which is fine, but they shouldn't claim that there are. The remote for the air conditioner was very confusing and didn't seem to work right. The hotel was also farther from the beach than we expected (more like seven minutes, I think). And of course the beds were too hard. But overall it was fine, especially given the price. I just want to thank you again, for how wonderfully helpful you've been. I've been recommending you to anyone I talk to who's thinking of going to Greece, and will of course use you again ourselves whenever we go back.
