Space...the final frontier. At Eleonas there is a pleasing amount of space between the individual or small cluster of cabins among trees and rockscapes of the mountains on the edge of, and overlooking Zaros.
Zaros has proved popular with those of our guests wishing to find the heartbeat (a gentle one) of this central area of Crete. Now with Eleonas you can enjoy the country, even go horse riding from the estate and be a few minutes from the village, the local Rouvas gorge and away from holidaymaker's' havens.
There is a
pleasing dining area and cafe with large light-tempting windows leading onto a wide wood deck, open to rock and tree mountainscape and at the edge of your view is the monastery above.
Horse riding - the real thing - is provided at Eleonas, you can (with guide) ride up the mountains of Crete and see a side of things at a pace, smell and feel missing from being on foot or in a car - saddle-up and ride!
The cabins are simple, pleasant and functional and the pictures here show the space between them, the easy comfort they offer.
Walk down to the large pool with plenty terrace to recline and sunbathe beside it. The cafe or bar are open all day and the restaurant serves breakfast and meals.
Go farther - the same family who run Eleonas have spruced up the taverna at Zaros' little lake - a different and pleasant place for a meal. Interesting footpaths start from near the taverna and allow you to climb the mountain a little...or a long way.

The hotel we booked (Eleonas Inn, Zaros) was absolutely fantastic. It's a wonderfull place to stay and compared to most parts of Crete, there are not too many tourists !

Our vacation in Crete was wonderful!! It was really better than we had expected. Eleonas was definitely the best experience. It is just the kind of accommodation I like: quiet, far from the masses and from nosy tourists, cosy and simply beautiful.
The best of Eleonas was the familiar atmosphere. We met many interesting people there and we would spend hours talking to Manolis, the owner, about a million things! We had dinner at the taverna every night because we enjoyed the food and the companion. We were very sad to leave Eleonas. If I had known it would be so amazing, we would have stayed longer.

It was a great experience.
Crete might not be the most beautiful island in Europe but the atmosphere, the food, the accommodation and the people we me met made our stay unforgettable. We want to visit another island next year so I will definitely contact you for advice.

Everything about Eleonas was excellent: the accommodation, the facilities and the food at the on-site taverna. We are hoping to go back next year with my elderly father in law as one of the bungalows is suitable for elderly/disabled people. I would recommend a stay here for anyone who wants a quiet break and who likes walking.
