Fabrica Traditional House - Anopolis
OUR REVIEW An olive press produced some the finest Cretan olive oil here years ago; now this truly traditional house with secluded small entrance courtyard with charming terrace garden off the living room - with a barbecue and superb hilltop views, is a delight to stay in. Fabrica is surprisingly good value for the quality and atmosphere it provides. The kitchen is well equipped (oven, microwave and dishwasher included), a dining table is lighted by a window to the view, separated from the living room area by a great stone arch - through which the fireplace sets the mood; with comfortable armchairs and a traditional sofa.
Natural-tiled bathroom downstairs with washing machine, iron and ironing board. A spiral staircase climbs to the twin bedroom, off which is a large view terrace and the main double bedroom (access to the double bedroom is via the twin bedroom). The double bedroom has bathroom en-suite, front & rear small balconies.
In the middle of Anopolis village with kafeneios
and tavernas for lazy and tasty moments, but secluded with
side
walls. You are near (15-20 minutes by car) to Hersonissos, Heraklion,
Knossos. A few minutes and you are on the beach in Kokkini
Hani or
at Crete's largest water park. You can take some of the more
interesting roads via other unspoiled villages to the Lassithi
Plateau, Mount Dikti and across to some of the small south coast
villages and quieter beaches.
Please accept our appreciation for booking the Fabrica House for us. Evi and Manolis were gracious hosts and have a wonderful home in Anopoli. They visited us in Anopoli and hosted us at their home in Kokkini Hani. They made our visit to Crete all the more enjoyable. Please pass our thanks and appreciation on to them.
Judy weltmer We were delighted with our visit to Crete! Your service was excellent and our house in Anapolis was superb. Manolis our host was wonderful and we appreciated the personal attention he showed us. We loved the laid back, slower pace of Crete and the friendliness of all we came in contact with. That is the biggest asset you have going for you in Crete. It was hassle free. I loved the archaeological sites of Knossos, Phaestos & Malia & the fabulous museum at Heraklion. Our friends from london also loved the experience which was totally different from the stressful lives they usually lead. Thanx for your help. Regards, Jim Stratmann We had a lovely time on Crete. The Fabrica house was excellent and its owners could not have been more helpful & friendly. About the only thing I can think of that would have been a big help would have been much more detailed instructions for finding the village/house. Other than that everything was first class... thank you. Mike Millen The house is not accessible by car which has to be parked at back of village and walk in up a small but steep incline to gain access. Fabrica is the only Tourist house in the village and the locals do not speak english. We felt a little uncomfortable living with the locals. Would be more suitable for fellow Greeks. The house itself had been refurbished well and had a homely atmosphere. Copyright CreteTravel.com - protected The spiral staircase was tricky to manourver on. Due to the close proximity of the houses locals voices did carry and the house was overlooked by an old lady in black - we were not sure about trunks etc causing offence as she was covered from head to toe). [they do not!]It did however have the feel of staying in a home which was lived in and would have benefited from new hotel style cotton sheets& pillows and a clean tablecloth. The owners left fresh fruit and vegetables and basics like washing up liquid, sugar and coffee and emergency frozen bread in freezer. Some of the lights fused but the owner came the same day and repaired them which was good. Sound proofing of some sort may help as the wooden floors double as a ceiling & every sound carries including a very creaky but comfortable bed. On the last day the weather changed and we had a day of sunshine. This changed the atmosphere of the place and we were able to take advantage of the wonderful views from the balconies and appreciate the place more. In summary we would not personally want to stay there again mainly because of the feeling of isolation & language difficulty but we would recommend it for Greeks who would feel more comfortable in a mountain retreat. Would not recommend as unfit for disabled people due to car parking, slope and spiral staircase.
