Ionas Hotel - Chania
OUR REVIEW Walk away from the Venetian harbour, the clear gem and
magical focus of Chania and you begin to find buildings in the back
streets, still close to the harbour that are ripe for restoration.
As you walk into the marble floored ground level cafe which merges into the reception area, the boutique furniture and solid walls, the glistening modernity facing off with the ancient walls of the building, lead to a craftsman created staircase of well worked wood and iron. If you wish to take the easy way this old building boasts an elevator so you can swoosh up to your elegant and stylish room. 8 rooms and a suite are offered. Rooms are wood floored, with stone-and-faced walls, all
bathrooms are modern and pleasing, with massage-jets.
Each room is entered through the uniquely formed and decorated
bleached wood door with inset decorative motif. Breakfast is served in the cafe downstairs. One thing to note is that Ionas is not always "manned" in the afternoon & evening, a key to the main entrance is given to each guest. If you need help with something, the owner is a phone call away.

Our trip to Crete was fantastic. We loved Crete and hope to return one day.
The Ionas Hotel in Chania exceeded expectations. This really is a gem of a place - really unique and quite gorgeous. We could have happily spent a week in Chania. The people were exceptionally friendly and generous. Thank you. Julie Wilson We had a super time in Crete. The accommodation was just perfect. Very clean, lovely breakfast, so near everywhere. The receptionist lady was very help, taxi turning up at the right time etc. The only thing was the weather. We only had two nice days. The rest was rain, dzrizzle and cloud and cold. Pity but never mind. It didn't stop us doing things. I will certainly recommend the Ionas. Would love to go again. Thank you very much. Regards, Joyce Tyldesley Thanks for your assistance with our stay in Chania. A few comments you may want to pass along to the Hotel Ionas: The owner is extremely friendly and helpful, and the renovation is beautiful. The bathroom was especially nice. Our only complaints were: 1. The room was not straightened up every day. We were not told about this in advance. We were disappointed to come back to the room in the evening and find that it had not been tidied up and we did not have fresh towels. 2. Breakfast is somewhat pathetic. It seemed like the baked goods were stale, and the same items were being put out day after day. Thanks again for your help. Best regards, Eileen Goldsmith I would like to say thank you to Roger and the team at CreteHotelRooms.com. The hotel you recommeneded was excellent and everything you said it would be. Thank you. I have mentioned you in my review with glowing colours. Amanda Rolleston The Ionas hotel was superb and we parted as friends. Your service, as always, was excellent. All the best, Irwin Braude It was quite the best place we stayed in. Not perfect - too much light at night for me, but beautifully done and with exquisite taste! And why are Greek bathrooms too small without anywhere to put things down? (a cultural question)! The owner was delightful, luckily we had the German language in common, and he was so pleased that we found his building especially interesting, he brought all hi old documents/plans etc. to show us. Fascinating. If you want some constructive suggestions there would be three. Another chair to sit on would have been an added improvement - lolling on the bed let the place down. Something to sit on on the balcony + a table would go down well. But most importantly the bread they provide at breakfast really lets them down. Oh and a gentle word about not smoking when serving breakfast would be politic to please non-Greek guests - charming girl, nothing too much trouble but...a little staff training needed there for the 'boutique hotel' cache. Just a touch of the 'everything counted out' by the slice on provisions, (and jam in plastic portions) if you know what i mean. Copyright CreteTravel.com - protected The receptionist was very charming, well informed and a mine of information, as was the son. In all a positive experience and we wish them well. Chania we liked, God Friday procession and all!Joan Stephenson We thank you so much for all that you did for us in arraigning for the car and hotels on Crete. I don't believe we could have done it on our own and you provided an excellent "tour guide service" for our trip. The hotels were excellent and directions were as good as could be. The Ionas Hotel was our favorite both from location and price. If we were to do it over, we would stay there and day trip the island. All in all it was an incredible trip for our 50th anniversary and you provided the basis for the week spent on Crete. Thank you again for your help and best regards to you and yours.
