OUR REVIEW
On the north-east coast of Crete, set in its own beautiful private bay with a
600m sandy beach, the hotel is secluded yet within 30 minutes drive of Agios Nikolaos,
two minutes from Istron village. Sizeable swimming pool. Children's pool and playground. Water sports, diving centre, tennis court.
Pleasing "areas" to sit and enjoy views and special moments. The hotel is self-contained - it has all you need, but is an easy drive to village and town. Set on the hill cascading down to the beach, drinks may be served on the beach and at two more bars, meals also served at different levels of the hotel's hillside position - at the beach taverna, main restaurant and at the swimming
pool. All the rooms have sea views.
The hotel though not new,
has a marvelous atmosphere - calm and peaceful; a civilized place to
stay as long as you can. One of a few places in Crete in just the
right location, quite special.
Some areas of the hotel could do with renovation, there are a few hints of "fading glory" - if this doesn't detract from the overall setting and location - and generally it does not - it is a most enjoyable place to stay.
The manager of the hotel is a
chef and he follows the footsteps of his uncle (the hotel manager
before him), who is the chairman of the Greek Academy of Taste; thus
the hotel offers real traditional Cretan cuisine and also
Mediterranean cuisine. Food is taken seriously here, for your ultimate
enjoyment. There is an opportunity to learn much about Cretan cuisine
- learning about the herbs, olive oil, and natural ingredients, their
natural sources and the preparation and enjoyment of prepared dishes.
Places to visit from here include: Spinalonga, Toplou Monastery, the archaeological site of Gournia, Faneromeni
Monastery and more.

ROOMS/SUITES
Standard Rooms (1-2 people): with sea view, balcony or terrace, air conditioning/ heating, bathroom with bathtub, telephone, radio,
satellite TV, safe, mini-bar and hair dryer.
Superior Rooms (2-3 people): larger rooms at higher levels with sea view, bedroom area and sitting area, balcony or terrace, air conditioning/heating, bathroom with bathtub,
bathrobe, telephone, radio, satellite TV, safe, mini-bar and hair dryer.
Suites/Apartments (2-4 people):
with sea view, most are near the swimming pool, "maisonette style"
(bedroom upstairs, living room with kitchenette and sofa-beds
downstairs). These suites are undergoing renovation, and will be
available at opening time.
All suite/apartments have 1 bathroom with bathtub, bathrobes, sunbeds
on the balcony or terrace, air conditioning/heating, telephone, radio, satellite TV, safe, mini-bar and hair dryer.
Junior Suites (2-4 people): with sea or garden view. These
suites are "open plan" (larger rooms with combined bedroom and sitting
area). Some of these suites are in an annex (separate building).
We recommend the completely refurbished Junior suites (these are
actually the newest part of the hotel), on the east side of the main
building. They have big windows and
verandas and sea views. Also, kitchenette with refrigerator.
All Junior suites have 1 bathroom with bathtub, bathrobes, sunbeds
on the balcony or terrace, air conditioning/heating individually operated, telephone, radio, satellite TV, safe, mini-bar and hair dryer.
HOTEL SERVICES
Seawater swimming pool (28.50X12m). Children's pool and children's
playground, mini-club (for children 4-11 years). Lounge, bar, TV
corner, billiards & table tennis room, tennis court and beach volley,
sea-sports (scuba-diving, water-ski, pedalo, banana, canoe,
windsurfing, fishing trips).
Activities organized: Cretan cooking lessons, nature walks (and
herb-picking), Cretan music & dancing evenings, Greek dancing lessons.
DISTANCES
800 m from Istron village, 13 km from Agios Nikolaos, 75 km from Heraklion
airport, 60 km from Sitia, 22 km from Ierapetra.

Istron Bay
is a great location and the people that manage this hotel are wonderful.
We will back to that island sometimes in April/May of 2009 and probably
stay longer.

The Istron Bay was magical, and wonderfully restful, the sea was always so calm and ward as were all the staff at the hotel. From there we did Agios Nikolaos, Sitia, the Lassithi Plateau and visited the Dikti cave which is stunning.

We would love to return and maybe one day we will, however there is still so much of the wold to see...

I must say that my visit to Crete was even better than I was hoping
thanks. Everything about it was enjoyable - the people, the weather, the
food, the wine......
Least favourite was the final 3 days staying at Istron Bay - the
location is breathtaking and the hotel was fine - just too touristy - 3
days there were long enough.

Room : very good, upgraded to a nice apartment.
Staff : helpful.

The Istron Bay Hotel was beautiful but i would not recommend it. It was full of noisy children...

The internal decoration was very bland - just whitewashed walls with very few pictures. The rooms were ok - but thats all - just ok. The balconies were very exposed to our neighbours and sometimes i felt awkward being outside.
The breakfast food was no very inviting - the cooked section looked very unappetising, so we didn't try evening food there.
The hotel staff were disinterested in us, except for Maria who worked behind the bar and a rep who was friendly too. Jann Matthews
We enjoyed our week in Crete very much, and whilst we had some reservations
about the hotel initially, we found the service and facilities to be very
good.
