OUR REVIEW

Kastellos is an old village which stands elevated above the north coast near Lake Kournas (where there are several tavernas). It is accessible to Rethymno and Chania and sits in an area with many trees and much greenery. 

The long expanses of north coast beaches are but a ten minute drive away.

Kastellos Village is truly a "traditional house" dating from 1910 and having one of the oldest olive trees in its garden as guest, accompanied by apple, apricot, pear and orange trees. Terracotta tiled roof with stone and plaster walls. The house provides two distinct apartments - both have the atmosphere of a place in the Cretan countryside that tempts one to consider staying forever. Decor is traditional with exposed wood roof beams and stonework; furnishing is in sympathy with the house and surroundings. 

Terraces and gardens with views of dreamlike countryside and the sea in the background and the mature gardens give ample opportunity to sit and read, dream, chat or just enjoy the views and calm.

It is very likely (but not certain yet) that in spring 2009, Kastellos will also have a swimming pool (shared between the 3 houses).

The pool will be full/usable in the summer months (April to October).
 

The location is very suited to exploration of this part of Crete from Rethymno to Chania, the white mountains and beyond, not to forget numerous small villages which are the soul of Crete.

"YIANNIS" apartment [ upper Floor ]

Garden and rear terrace, expansive front dining and lounging terrace, stone fireplace, spiral staircase leads to the galleried double bedroom overlooking (and open to) the living room - having a single bed in a partly separated area just off it. In the living room there are two sofas (convert to single beds) and traditional dining table.

Bathroom is modern as can be with shower and mini-bath. 

Kitchen is country style with mini cooker, fridge, coffee maker and toaster. 

"SOFIA" apartment [ lower Floor ]

Living room with adjoining kitchen, terrace at front, steps lead from the living room to the double bedroom (no door), which then leads to a partly screened area with one single bed. The two sofas in the living room convert to single beds.  Walk down to the garden of fruit trees and numerous plants, fine views. Bathroom is very modern with a full size bath.

Kitchen is country style with mini cooker, fridge, coffee maker and toaster. 

The whole house can be rented, but the two apartments are completely self-contained.
