Porto Del Colombo Hotel - Chania
OUR REVIEW Built 600 years ago, French embassy at the turn of the 19th century, later the house of Eleftherios Venizelos from 1905-1910, renovated 1999. A sense of history and well-established history makes for a hotel with atmosphere. Breakfast room, bar. Rooms have bathroom, direct dial phone, TV, mini-bar, air-conditioning, central heating and make excellent use of the original old building's design features, resulting in special features and comfort. At the edge of Chania's famed, romantic and most enjoyable Venetian harbour - many rooms have a view of this and beyond to the sea. Surrounded by Chania's history and cobblestone lanes, many other restored Venetian buildings, its accessible museums, shops, countless restaurants and all the feasts of places which can be visited using Chania as a base.

Porto Colombo is a beautiful old building -- and on our first visit there, we received a wonderful surprise when our room had an excellent view of the lighthouse in the harbor!
Copyright CreteTravel.com - protected I hadn't expected a view for such a modest price.Sheryl Macy Wherever possible we prefer to stay in smallish places with character and friendly staff rather than big, impersonal, multi starred hotels and Porto del Colombo fitted the bill perfectly. The hotel was in a perfect location, in a quiet and pretty part of the pedestrian area only a few steps away from all the tavernas and gift shops etc... The staff is very friendly and only too happy to help... as illustrated above! They gave us blankets and control for the heating when we said we had been cold the first night and they served lovely fresh bread every breakfast! The only thing perhaps was that our room with a view over the harbour was on the top floor with no lift! We had not realised that prior to getting there. It was not a great problem except for taking the luggage up and down! Helene Hunt We had a fantastic time and loved Crete. We had never been to Greece before and Crete was a great introduction to our three weeks in your amazing country. Our accommodation at Porto Del Colombo (not sure of spelling) in Chania was excellent, friendly and fantastic value for money. Shelley Tinworth I had a great time in Crete. The Porto del Colombo hotel in Chania was really nice, I enjoyed it a lot. Minor criticism: the towels were probably 20 years old (paper thin and some had holes in them). It was a pitty to see this in such a nice hotel. Thank you for providing directions, Chania is not exactly trivial to navigate if you're new to the area. The hotel exceeded my expectations. I know how things work in this part of the world (I was born in Romania) so it was a very pleasant surprise. Also, the location of the hotel was superb. Petru Lauric Just a short e-mail to thank you for organising the hotel Porto Del Colombo for us. The climb to our room on the top floor was rewarded with the beautiful harbour views from our hotel room, the staff in the hotel were very welcoming. We will definitely book our hotel accommodation through Crete travel.com again on our next trip to Crete, which we hope will be very soon to see how the building work is progressing on our new home in Crete. Karin Henderson One of the best decisions we made was booking the Porto del Colombo - we loved the quaint hotel, the location and its staff. Lance Merecereau the stairs at Porto Del Colombo were a challenge with luggage. James & Lorraine McGhie Porto del Colombo Hotel was an excellent choice, great rooms with good air conditioning and views, good service, fine breakfast and just the perfect location. I did take some good memories of that hotel with me!!! I did not dislike anything to do with this place. Ricardo Ortega We booked the Porto del Columbo hotel through you. I found that the information you supplied was accurate, and you even provided a little map to the hotel which was very useful. The hotel and surrounding area was wonderful - worth the initial walk lugging our suitcases. I felt very confident letting my girls (22 and 18) go out at night in the area, quite safe, but as you said, like any place you must not take foolish chances. Your service was excellent. Thank you. The only downside was that the hotel did not provide any help with the luggage - and we were on the 4th floor. When I asked if there was anybody who could help, the lady looked at me as if I was crazy. Really, I could see that some patrons would have difficulty dealing with their luggage on the stairs, and I think that they should have someone to help, if not immediately, maybe within the hour. Alison Walker The taxi from Chania Airport to the hotel worked perfectly. So did everything concerning Hotel Porto del Colombo: a key available, taped to the entrance, a very nice room with a fantastic view of the harbour, good standard, a pleasant receptionist who made us a substantial breakfast.
