OUR REVIEW

We have found villas on the south coast for you. We are in the quaint village of Kamilari and they tell us all three tavernas are very good, there is also a pizzeria where people come from all over to eat and enjoy. We are touring the selected villas for you to stay in, here and in surrounding areas (you won't have far to travel for that pizza or perfect Cretan meal!).

A villa for you and family in the village of Kamilari, or the hillside overlooking coastal rolling hills and the horizon of the Libyan sea, or Kalamaki and Kommos beaches, or in the fascinating and friendly village of Sivas.
In general all these different in style - new or traditional - villas are near Matala, the fabled sunset-watching beach, the once hippie-occupied caves, the relaxed small shops and cafes...the sandy beach.
The thing is, they all have interesting locations and good facilities. Some in these interesting and cozy local villages, others more rural but with mouth-watering views where sipping a drink by your pool in the evening as the sun cools and the barbecue heats up is a bite of paradise.

The newly discovered appeal of the south coast has made us search for good villas in the area. Now you have the chance to stay in one of a variety of villas all within a few minutes' drive of Matala and Phaestos.

In Kamilari is the unsurprisingly named Villa Kamilari - or Villa Pasiphae a mini-town-mansion style building both with their own beckoning pool.
Villa Kamilari is fitted in between attractive house just off the village square, with its own private courtyard and pool. The villa hails from 1903 but is much modernised! It sleeps 4 people (up to 6 if you need), with two bedrooms and 1 bathroom on two floors. If barbecuing by the pool is not the choice one night, a short stroll and you are at one of the village tavernas. .
The Villa Pasiphae is a neo-classical building restored in 1996 to bring it up to modern standards and comfort levels. It is just off the small village square and allows you to enjoy some village views, a local feel, full facilities. And if you might be visiting with extended family, there are separate studios (these are a little simpler) which can accommodate all of you so that you enjoy a classic and memorable reunion (up to 20 people). The studios are also rented separately and so share the pool with the main house (why not rent it all exclusively - if you are 14 or more in total its all yours, with private pool, anyway).

In nearby Sivas village - Sivas Villas, these are traditional stone village houses, right there in the heart the Cretan south, beautiful restored stone, courtyards, pools and comfortable rooms and living areas...all a walk of minutes only from numerous cafes, tavernas and bakeries in the village. From Sivas it's downhill either way (literally and conveniently!) to Kommos beach and its archaeology-on-the beach attraction, or Matala and its deep sandy beach and restaurants...both 5-7 minutes drive.

Overlooking the beach of Kommos from above the more modern yet adobe-rounded Phaestias Villas sleep 2-6 people and of course come with pools, chef-friendly full kitchens, fireplaces, terraces, twin and double bedrooms and fine sunsets. All are a fresh wild herb scented walk from the beaches below.

Listaros country villas are outside the village of Listaros in a private setting with medium distance horizon of the sea (4.5 km by sight, 7.5 km by car), high comfort and good quality trim and decor levels, fine terraces, pools and even workout gear..and are suited for up to 6 people. A feel of quality in just a few minutes up the mountain from the sea.

5 independent villas, 4-6 people each. On a quiet hill with views to the mountains and the sea.

Each villa is on two floors and has two bedrooms, a big bathroom with hydro-massage, hamam, home spa. Hairdryer. Second bathroom.

Fully equipped kitchen, living room with fireplace. Air conditioning (cooling-heating), satellite TV, DVD player, HiFi system, washing machine, microwave, iron, safe box.

Garden 800 m², private swimming-pool with hydro-massage, children's pool, playground, barbecue, private parking.

DISTANCES: Heraklion 65 km, Kamilari 1 km, 1 km from the big sandy beach of Kalamaki-Kommos.

2 stone traditional manor-houses built in 1900, in the traditional village Sivas, renovated in 2004.

Villa Radamanthis (2-5) people.The entrance to the house leads to an open sitting area and a swimming pool (3.50m x 7.00m, 1.30m deep). A spacious living room with fireplace, traditional furniture, comfortable sofas, satellite TV, DVD player, HiFi system and a sofa that converts into a single bed. A stone arch leads to the dinning area and fully equipped kitchen (with microwave, percolator, electric cooker, fridge, toaster and all implements). Next to the kitchen is a bedroom with a double and a single bed and a bathroom with shower cabin, hairdryer and washing machine. Wooden stairs lead to the first floor where there is another bedroom with wooden floor (ondas) with a double and a single bed and a terrace leading up to a garden which offers a great view. Air conditioning (cooling-heating), safe box and electric iron.

Villa Epimenidis (2-6 people). Next to villa Radamanthis. A spacious living/dining room with fireplace, traditional furniture, comfortable sofas, satellite TV, DVD player, HiFi system and a sofa that coverts into a single bed.

Fully equipped kitchen (with microwave, percolator, electric cooker, fridge, toaster and all utensils).

View of the swimming pool - from the sitting room through a stone made arch, which is surrounded by stone walls. This villa has total privacy and a romantic atmosphere. From the living room a hallway leads to one bedroom with a double bed (an old wine-press which has been changed into a double bed) and a single bed. In the basement there is a bathroom with shower cabin, with hairdryer and washing machine. Wooden stairs lead to the first floor where there is another bedroom with a double and a single bed and a terrace leading to a garden. On the second floor there is another terrace, which offers a fine view. Air conditioning (cooling-heating), safe box and electric iron. Size of swimming pool: 3.00m x 7.00m, 1.30m deep.

Sivas has many feasts and celebrations taking place during summer and Easter that may prove interesting. There are shops, tavernas, kafeneios, mini markets, gift shops in the village, while a wider choice is is on offer in Matala, Mires,Tymbaki, all close to Sivas.

A stone, traditional house built in 1903, renovated in 2004. In Kamilari village. The entrance to the house leads to a private parking area and a small garden with outdoor sitting area. Inside: a spacious living-room with a fireplace, traditional furniture, comfortable sofas converting to single beds,satellite TV, DVD player, HiFi system. A stone made arch leads to the dining area and fully equipped kitchen (with microwave, percolator, electric cooker, fridge, toaster and all utensils). In the basement there is a spacious bedroom with a double and a single bed, a bathroom with a shower cabin, hair-dryer and washing machine. Wooden stairs lead to another bedroom with wood floor (ondas) with a double bed and a sofa convertible to a single bed, which looks out on a terrace leading to a garden with a good view. Swimming pool (3.5m x 7.00m, 1.30m deep) and barbeque. Air conditioning (cooling-heating), safe box and electric iron. Very private and quiet. Shops, tavernas, Kafeneio, mini-markets, gift shops in the village, a wider choice is on offer in Matala, Mires, Tymbaki, small towns close to Kamilari.

Villa Oasis is the most recently renovated house (2008). In Kamilari village. A stone-made manor house, on three levels, with four bedrooms andthree bathrooms (the one with whirlpool bathtub 1.55x1.55m and the others with shower). Gym room, kitchen, dining-room, living-room withfireplace and antique piano. Outdoor swimming pool (3.00mx9.50m size, 1.30m deep) and barbeque. Terrace & garden with sea views, private parking.

Fully equipped kitchen (kettle, toaster, fridge, dishwasher, microwave oven, coffee machine, four ring cooker with oven). Air conditioning (cooling-heating), 2 satellite LCD TVs, DVD player, CD player, radio, safe box, hair dryer, first aid box, washing machine, iron and ironing board, baby-cot and high baby chair.

In the centre of the village of Kamilari. Built in 1903 in neo-classical style, restored in 1996, it has a spacious yard and a view of the sea (in the distance) and the mountains.

A traditional three-storey house of 200 m², for 10-12 people (5 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms total).
On the ground floor living room with fireplace, dining room, large fully equipped kitchen, 2 bathrooms (one with whirlpool bathtub 1.55x 1.55m and the other with hydro-massage shower cabin) and one master bedroom. On the first floor, 3 double bedrooms, 2 bathrooms with shower and a gym room. On the second floor 1 double bedroom with bathroom with shower.
All rooms are furnished with original traditional pieces of furniture. Air conditioning (cooling-heating), safe box, satellite TV. Large private swimming pool, small children's pool, large veranda, garden and barbeque.

Next to the house there are two lodgings with bathrooms that can accomodate 2-4 people each. (These are not booked separately, but only in case the house needs to accommodate up to 20 people).
