Spilia Village Traditional Hotel - Spilia
OUR REVIEW Built in 5 months by a team of fifty craftsmen, around an original factory-come-olive press and the remains of 13 to 17th century village houses, Spilia Village is the true Cretan country village inn. A place of good quality, built of stone and finished with timbers, pleasant, but uncluttered decor. Nineteen rooms, three of them suites, await. Rooms
have neat and pleasing style and suites are
specially so - all finished with much
woodwork and stone. Bathrooms are modern, with shower or bathtub. All rooms
have air conditioning, telephone, radio, TV, mini bar,
whirlpool or air massage in the bathrooms.
One can wander around the village of Spilia, be on the beach in ten minutes and sitting at the waterfront in Chania in less than half an hour.
The village has some cafes and one taverna if you wish for a change from the fine food offered at Spilia Village's own outdoor restaurant, romantically situated between ancient Roman walls - serving locally sourced foods prepared to special recipes (April to mid October). A swimming pool with bar service means that all relaxation is possible here. An indoor pool has been added for winter swimming (heated September to April, if the hotel remains open). Fitness room, children's playground.
Nearby are the Cave of St John the Hermit (photo), housing a wonderful chapel and the Deliana gorge. On tap are the adventures and pleasures of trips to Fallassarna, Balos, the Rotunda church (photo), inland Crete and the white sands of Elafonisi. The increasingly pleasing Kolymbari has some special offerings including an excellent stone house cafe on the beach. The monastery of Gonias and Kolymbari's beach is 10 minutes by car. Horse-riding is possible in nearby Deres horse farm.
THE ROOMS & SUITES Standard Rooms: All have double beds. Triple rooms have a double bed and a sofa-bed (can also be used as Twin rooms). The Quadruple room has a double bed and 2 sofa-beds (all in the same room). Suites: Suites have an extra sitting area (in most of the suites this is open to the bedroom). The bedroom has a double bed and the sitting area has 2 sofa-beds. 1 suite has the bedroom upstairs (gallery). There are 2 suites that have a closing door to the bedroom (please mention if privacy/separation is important to you). Superior Suite: The largest suite. Living room with fireplace, small kitchenette, desk, sofa-bed. 1 double bedroom and 1 single bedroom (both bedrooms are private, each with a closing door to the living room).
The accomodations were great.
In Spilia Village Hotel the service was very good and the food in the
restaurant/taverne was excellent with extensive choice on the menu.
Therefore we had dinner in the hotel every night.
We really enjoyed our stay in Crete.
If we ever travel to Crete again, we most certainly will contact you and
will recommend your service to others.
Kindest regards, Denise Satijn (from Holland) I really did enjoy my visit to Crete last september. The accommodation in both Spilia Village [and St Nicolas Bay] was excellent and my visits to the surrounding areas was very enjoyable, even though I could not find where we parked our hire car in Chania!! Graham Jones Rooms: vain, equipped very well, excellent bed linen, good sound proofing. On the other hand, rather small,1 only window. The majority of the terraces are 'collective' or then for certain rooms there is one mini balcony. The reception: courteous, pleasant but without more. One does not feel 'heart' with Spillia what is paradoxical for a small hotel of charm. The price of the rooms is rather high, I would say the service is worth them but it does not have small free attentions which always give pleasure (e.g. no bottle of water on arrival, Lock of the trunk 2 euro's per day), paying for internet access!! Restoration: Excellent breakfast but would have been nice to have it on the outside terrace. Swimming pool is superb, comfortable deck chairs, In total we spent a very good moment in Spillia. Liliane Maunand The recommandations and accomodations you did were good. - The Spillia Village hotel is a good place to stay for visiting the west part. Their restaurant food and service are mediocre. People at reception are nice with international experience. Considering the price, Internet should be on free access ! Alain Schwartzmann Spilia Village – was situated in a proper village which we liked. Comfortable hotel and a friendly and helpful staff. Again a good restaurant. Copyright CreteTravel.com - protected Slight negatives – which were commented on by other guests – charging extra for services that should be free in a fairly expensive hotel. Bicycle rental, room safe usage, internet accesss. It was good advice from you not to use the disabled room if possible – as this was very enclosed and the one small window opened onto the breakfast room. We very much enjoyed the two places we chose to stay in Crete – wonderful scenery and of course Knossos was very interesting. Also thanks again for spending the time finding out various measurements which enabled us to stay at both hotels and my [disabled] sister could stay in very nice rooms, both with views. Best Regards, Mary Easingwood We had a great time and you were a big part of that. All in all, we loved our 6 days on Crete and saw a lot (Chania, Elofinisi, Sfakia and Loutro, Prevelli Monastery, Phaestos). We stayed at Spillia Villages [and Vergis Epavlis]. Spillia was nice, good room and pool. We found the taverna a bit quiet and mediocre. Maybe it's livlier and tastier during the high season.
