OUR REVIEW

This courtyard, this building, this cafe, this oasis - Villa Kynthia is all of these - an old restored building, with exotically furnished rooms or suites which have plenty of atmosphere. Right in the centre of the seaside village of Panormos.

Furnished with antiques, gilt edged mirrors, persian-style rugs and decorated with murals describing a story or legend from ancient Greek mythology. Several bathrooms have faux windows which are illuminated and are fitted out in bygone era Italian style.

Breakfast is served in the homely, country-style dining room or in the pool courtyard.
The pool, under the ancient pine-tree, is large enough to take a swim if the beach which is only a three minute stroll...seems too far!

When you stay here you are one of a few guests (only 5 rooms and suites). There is a remarkable atmosphere reminiscent of an old Italian pensione, the type of place where true travellers exchange stories or enjoy a hidden joy in their rooms.

A high-ceilinged separate bar is excellent for quiet or lively discussions, and sometimes (small and select) live music events.

A good cozy taverna, on the pedestrian street a couple of buildings away, is very convenient for meals near the hotel and will deliver to you in your suite or the pool courtyard.

Panormos village, apart from two delightful sandy beaches, has a most central location along the north coast of Crete that allows for exploring many parts and sights of Crete. For example, you can visit easily Bali, Anogia, the historic Arkadi Monastery, south coast towns & beaches of Plakias, Agia Galini and Matala, Preveli Monastery and Phaestos. There is a "little train" trip in the summer which you can take from Panormos to the Melidoni cave, Margarites potteries and Langa where you will see old farm implements. The proximity (20 minutes) to Rethymno and its old town makes this trip a must. Heraklion, Knossos and the airport are about one hour away.

THE ROOMS/SUITES
Artemis (first floor with windows): Large open plan room with double bed, separated with a floor screen from the sitting area with 2 sofa beds, bathroom with bathtub.

Odyssey (first floor with balcony): Large open plan room with double bed, separated with a floor screen from the sitting area with 2 sofa beds, bathroom with bathtub.

Rea apartment (ground floor at courtyard): 2 rooms - one with 2 sofa beds and a small kitchenette and one with double bed. Bathroom with bathtub.

Pandora room (first floor with terrace): With a double bed and a sofa-bed, bathroom with shower.

Nefeli room (first floor): With double bed. The bathroom with shower is not in the room, it is 1 m opposite the room in the corridor (this small corridor is used by Nefeli and Pandora and has a door to it from the hallway - so that Nefeli and Pandora can be used together as private family quarters).

All suites and rooms have central heating, air conditioning, TV, telephone, mini-bar, safe box, hair dryer, iron.

DISTANCES
250m from sandy beach, 22 km from Rethymno, 55 km from Heraklion and airport, 80 km from Chania, approx. 75 km down to the south coast (Agia Galini).

Rates are per room, per night. They include breakfast, air conditioning and all taxes.
A baby cot costs 15 euros/day and safe box use 5 euros/week.

MINIMUM STAY: 4-7 nights, depending on season.
