OUR REVIEW

We travel all over the world and only sometimes find somewhere so exceptional to stay, to breath again, be alive - that does all you could ever dream of: take your breath away. Villa Limeri - where it is located, forms the basis of a lifelong memory and is clearly made of the the stuff that any celebrity seeks in order to find peace, quiet and that feeling of "separateness" (why else do people own islands and estates?).

There is a road, but that's how you get to Villa Limeri...once there it as if no road had ever reached the place.
Eclectic in design and architecture - and the better for it - as this has the modern version of a "great hall", yet none of the darkness of an old mansion, it is all exposed to the magic healing light we get so much of in Crete. In the middle of the flora and fauna, the massive mountains, the small trees and shrubs, the fragrant plants and herbs, the dramatic rocks to every side - far away from people, your view is open, the air is clear. The land area devoted to the house is large, but really you benefit from the extension of this all into the unpopulated hills beyond. Sit and think, splash in the pool and gaze, write a paper, start a novel - bring yourselves and your loved ones together...a place for quality time.

Hidden, inland from Rethymno - via the small roads which wind through tiny historic villages, is this estate - with a panorama of inland Crete at the core, the vibrant centre of the island. But, tire of relaxing here and enjoying the views and natural surrounds and in 20 - 25 minutes be walking the old town streets of Rethymno or letting the sea water tickle your toes on the sandy beaches beyond. In a scenic 40-45 minute car drive you will be on the south coast and even warmer temperatures (it is normally 2-4 degrees warmer down south), milder clearer seas or perhaps visit the Preveli monastery or the palm-fronted beach.

Your choice: have the house helper stay in the apartment secreted below the villa and on-call to cook and serve your wishes, or cast her away and enjoy the domain, the privacy of a Cretan country-side kingdom.

This is definitely a place for sharing - be it the two of you, an entwined romantic couple or a small family in unison with the surroundings and nature.
There is a small pool, a great-hall sized living, dining and kitchen area. Then still on the ground floor, a unique modern stone and wood inspired bathroom. Up the open wood stairs to a gallery corridor leading into one of three bedrooms.

There is no air conditioning, as Villa Limeri's 420 m altitude and well angled position keep things cool.
The name "Limeri", for your interest and perhaps descriptive of its qualities means a "haunt" or "refuge".

THE VILLA

Upstairs: 2 double bedrooms & 1 twin bedroom.

2 bathrooms: 1 downstairs with bathtub and shower, 1 upstairs with shower cabin.
Large living room with picture windows, fireplace, central heating, mini HiFi, flat screen TV with satellite reception, DVD player. High speed internet connection. Fully equipped kitchen, dishwasher. Washing machine. No air conditioning (naturally cool because of altitude & construction).
Pets are welcome.

SERVICES/ACTIVITIES

Small pool. Meals can be cooked for you, with fresh local ingredients, including Limeri farm's own produce & meats.
Mountain biking and hiking can be organized by Anna, the villa owner/manager. She also offers advice about sightseeing & cultural pursuits in the area. If you are a bird watching enthusiast, bring your binoculars - Villa Limeri's position/location is ideal for the sport!

Monopari village - 1 km (one cafe/taverna in the village)
Rethymno - 16 km.
South coast (Preveli, Damnoni & other beaches) - 35-40 km.
Heraklion airport & town - 96 km. Chania - 82 km.
We recommend that you rent a car, other means of transport are limited and/or infrequent (you cannot reach Villa Limeri by public transport).

Rates are for the whole villa, per night and include heating (in the winter) and all taxes. Breakfast & meals are available on request (extra).
